01 — The pack

Everything the trustees sign, in one place.

  • The accounts: receipts and payments, or accruals accounts on the Charity Commission's own layout
  • The trustees' annual report, written from your answers about the year
  • The annual return answers, ready to copy into the Charity Commission's online service
  • A calendar with every deadline for the year
  • A short list of outstanding items, so nothing is missed before the trustees sign
02 — Who it is for

Village halls, clubs, trusts and CIOs.

How it works

Three steps. Most of the work is ours.

1
The treasurer sends the bank statements and a short form about the year.
2
We prepare the pack and send any questions, usually only a few.
3
A chartered accountant reviews it. The trustees approve and sign.
Questions

Common questions.

Which kind of accounts does our charity need?

Smaller charities that are not companies can usually prepare simpler receipts and payments accounts. Larger charities, and all charitable companies, prepare accruals accounts under the Charities SORP. We work out which applies from your income and your legal form, and tell you why.

We are a CIO. Is that different?

A CIO files its accounts and trustees' report with the Charity Commission every year, whatever its income. We prepare both and the annual return answers in the same pack.

Do you do the independent examination?

We prepare the accounts and the report so that they are ready for your independent examiner or auditor. If you do not have one yet, tell us and we will point you to one.

When is everything due?

The annual return, and the accounts and report where they must be filed, are due 10 months after the end of the charity's financial year. Each pack includes a calendar with your dates.

We are a New Zealand society or charity.

We do those too, under New Zealand's rules, which are different. See the New Zealand societies and charities page. New Zealand societies and charities →
