01 — The steps

From contract offer to first pay.

  1. 1. Sign up with us: Five minutes on your phone. Pick the contractor package and pay the first month. No company yet? Tick "Form one for me". You get your own page and a docs email address straight away.
  2. 2. We form your company: Companies House needs every new director to verify their identity first: it is free and takes about 10 minutes in GOV.UK One Login. Send us the code it gives you and the name you want, and we file the company for you. Formation is £120, paid with your first month: it covers the £100 Companies House fee.
  3. 3. Keep your home address private: Add our registered office address for £26.40 a year (our partner OfficeServ, at cost), so your home address stays off the public register. Or use your own.
  4. 4. Open the business bank account: Any UK business account. The bank needs your company number, so this comes after step 1. Send us the statements each month, or connect Xero or QuickBooks if you use them.
  5. 5. VAT and payroll decided: We tell you whether to register for VAT and which scheme suits you, and set up payroll for your director's salary. Both are in the £95. Read the guide →
  6. 6. Your first pay: When the agency pays the company, forward its invoice or self-bill statement to your docs address. We match it to the bank.

02 — Your page

Everything in one place.

  • Your numbers: Money in, costs, profit this year, money in the bank and VAT building up.
  • What you can pay yourself: We work out what is available, and prepare the dividend vouchers and board minutes for each payment.
  • Expenses by photo: Photograph a receipt or forward the email. It is read, coded and filed.
  • Approve, then we file: Every return comes to your page first. You approve it there, then we file it.
  • Messages and WhatsApp: Ask us anything on your page or on WhatsApp. A chartered accountant checks every file.

Questions

New contractor questions.

Do I need a limited company, or can I use an umbrella?

Both work. An umbrella employs you and runs your pay through PAYE, so there is nothing to set up, but you keep less if your contract is outside IR35. A limited company gives you more control and usually more take-home outside IR35. Our IR35 guide explains how to tell which applies to you.

Do you form the company for me?

Yes. Tick "Form one for me" when you sign up. You verify your identity with Companies House in GOV.UK One Login (free, about 10 minutes: the law says only you, or an authorised agent, can do this step), send us the code, and we file the company. It costs £120, paid with your first month, which covers the £100 Companies House fee.

I start my contract next week. Is that too soon?

No. Sign up and verify your identity this week, and we form the company: most are approved by Companies House within a day. Open the business bank account as soon as the company number arrives, so the agency can pay the company.

What does the £95 cover?

Your records, your expenses, the year-end accounts, the corporation tax return, the confirmation statement, your own tax return, VAT returns and your director's payroll. Payroll for anyone else you pay is £10 a month each.

Is there a contract or setup fee?

No setup fee and no VAT to add. You pay monthly, and either of us can end it with 30 days' notice.
